I bet you’re thinking “what an unusual name, TOLTECHS”. Well, in 2001, when Andrew Schuetze, team founder, proposed the idea of robotics to Edgewood ISD, he and a group of only four students stood before tools, a parts kit, and one objective. The students wanted to find a way to combine their Hispanic heritage with this new engineering initiative. The team name, the Toltechs, was derived from the name of an advanced Meso-American civilization from Central Mexico that predates the Aztec, called the Toltecs. Toltec means Master Builder, and they were very well known experts in engineering, architecture, and the arts. Add 'technology' to that name, and you get TOLTECH. Thus, Team 499 - The Toltechs was born.

Now we find ourselves in a team of over 30 skilled engineering-minded students with great aspirations of solving everyday problems using acquired skills, teamwork, and hard work. In the past eight seasons, we have won several awards ranging from AutoDesk Visualization, to Engineering Inspiration. We take pride in mentoring FLL, FTC, EARLY, GEAR, BotBall, and other FRC teams. We are particularly proud of our BETA test project results and the four new San Antonio FRC rookies who will be with us at the Lone Star Regional this year. We also enjoy volunteer opportunities in the area like Habitat for Humanity and the San Antonio Rock-n-Roll Marathon. Our team thrives with a spirit of sharing, motivation, expertise, competition, and gracious professionalism. See ya'll in Atlanta!
