Our Beginnings and our Future |
| In 2001, a dozen pre-engineering students and
one teacher competed in the FIRST Robotics Competition in Houston,
Texas. 7 robotic building seasons have formed a cooperative
organization known as the Toltechs, Team 499. The Toltechs
team now stands at forty members and thirteen mentors with
additional help from technology teachers. |
The Edgewood Independent School District comprises of two main
high schools and a fine arts academy. John F. Kennedy High School,
Memorial High School, and the Edgewood Fine Arts Academy fuse
together to create the Toltechs 499.
As a team we try our best to be involved with the community to
encourage growth in engineering, science, and technology. Members
from our team have taken the responsibility in mentoring elementary
students in our districts own G.E.A.R. tournament (Getting Excited
About Robotics). Involving our district's schools in amateur
building and programming
has shown to be a great success in spreading the focus of FIRST.
