Wilderness Dataloggers!
Code Red at Green Geyser

Scoring Guide
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Overview

The Wilderness Dataloggers "Code Red at Green Geyser" provides a module-by-module adventure for young Robocampers to enjoy. As the adventure progresses, the opportunity to begin testing (at the "Naturarium") allows teams to learn robot basics. They also have access to plenty of science and ecology-oriented content. Upon reaching the Green Geyser Wilderness, teams tackle the Park Missions to accrue points and win the Robocamp competition.

As with all the Camp-on-a-Disk CD-Roms, the antics of Commander-in-Chief Roxie S. Rivetminder add a personable and unpredictable splash to the proceedings.

Be sure to refer to the General Rules for additional information about the Park Missions competition.

The Camp should evolve like this:

  1. Campers get overview of week and coming competition.
  2. Idea of them as "Data Rangers" on a cross-country wilderness trek is established.
  3. Campers/Data Rangers learn to design, build, and program LEGO robots.
  4. Lodge Training tasks provide beginning exercises for campers.
  5. Teams are established balancing different proficiencies.
  6. Trek challenges fine-tune the campers' skills.
  7. Green Geyser Park missions are final competition with scoring and awards.

Awards
Certificates are included in the Extra Resources folder on this CD-Rom. You can add winners names and print them out at "graduation".

Besides the Park Mission competition, there are also certificates for other awards you may want to include. Open and review the certificates for more info. (Awards are listed at the bottom of this page.)

Bonus Questions
There are bonus questions located on each Mission Page. Camp Directors may choose to add these questions to the competition. Each question is worth a certain number of points, as noted on the Bonus Question pop-up pages.

ANSWERS to bonus questions are located in a Microsoft Word document in the Extra Resources folder.

LODGE
ROBOLAB Training

Concept

The ROBOLAB Training allows campers to progress through a series of programming exercises that expands their understanding of a robot's capabilities. These lessons step through motors and timers, light sensors, touch sensors, and rotation (angle) sensors.

GREEN GEYSER PARK MISSIONS
Competition Scoring

The Park Missions are the culmination of the Dataloggers Robocamp, where Campers apply their newfound skill and brainpower on a mission to a storm-damaged wilderness park. The trek to Green Geyser has been their time for training and testing. Now the stakes are "real"- they reach the park and put their robots to work.

A KEY RULE:
Each "Match" is composed of three "Rounds". Each round lasts 2 minutes. During a 2 minute round, Campers choose whatever they want to do with their robots. They can use the entire 2 minutes to go after the Pack Rat, or jump around and attempt to score on any of the ten primary expedition objectives.
