These
rules apply to all Trek Challenges and Park Missions.
Camp Directors can modify rules as they see fit.
1.
A match is composed of three rounds. Each round lasts 2 minutes.
2.
"Starting Position” means the ENTIRE robot - including attachments
- is completely within the Start Area boundary lines. This starting base
is defined with yellow tape in a corner of the gameboard with dimensions
as indicated on the Robots may not exceed 12” in height at the start of the
round.
3.
Items used in missions (such as the Knotty Pine Seed Packets) may be manually
loaded on to the robot in the start area prior to a given mission.
4.
Robots should leave the base, perform missions and, if necessary, return
to the base, with only their programming to control them. If a team member
touches a robot while it is COMPLETELY outside of the base, a “Robot
Touching Penalty” of –1 point will be assessed and the robot
must be returned to the “Start Area” .
5.
Regardless of the number of times a robot is touched, the maximum number
of “Robot Touching Penalty” points shall not exceed –5
points.
6.
If a "robot touching" occurs (regardless of penalty points being
assessed) while an object is being brought back to base, either for points
or for later deployment, no points are given and the item(s) being brought
back are reset in their original positions.
7.
When a robot reaches the Pack Rat, and is attempting to retrieve it, the
Pack Rat may be manually loaded (by hand) onto the robot. Note the robot
must have made contact or be in contact with the Pack Rat prior to loading.
8.
A successful robot return is noted when ANY part of the robot crosses
any part of the Start Area lines.
9.
If the robot is retrieving an object for return to the Start Area, points
will be awarded when ANY part of the object crosses any part of the Start
Line areas.
10.
While the robot is in the “Start Area”, team members may repair
it, reposition it, load it or unload it, change the program, add or remove
parts or subassemblies or change the batteries. However, the clock continues
to run.
11.
Robots may be programmed using any version of RoboLab or NQC.
12.
Teams may only use one robot. Regardless of where or how they are used,
the following component maximums will be enforced: 3 motors, 2 touch sensors,
2 light sensors, and 1 rotation sensor. Modifying the base robot is allowed.
Check with the Camp Director if you have questions about modifications.
13.
Gameboard objects that are knocked over or displaced during competition
will remain as the robot leaves them and will not be reset until after
a 2 minute Round is complete.
14.
Items returned to the Start Area for points may be removed from the playing
field to make more room for the robot to start again.
15.
The score is calculated at the end of each Round. This means that if you
move items into a scoring zone (such as the Avalanche Rocks), other than
the Start Area, and then subsequently move them out before the round is
completed, the team will not receive points for those items.
16.
The winner will be the team with the highest score in any of the three
rounds. This is done so that teams that do poorly in the early round(s)
are not eliminated from the competition. If there is a tie, the tie-breaker
will be the sum of the scores in the best two rounds. If there is still
a tie, the tie-breaker will be the sum of the scores in all three rounds.
If a tie still exists, duplicate winners will be declared.
17.
Missions may be tried in parts, in any order, more than one at a time
or skipped. There is no obligation to complete every mission, but of course
opportunities for points are reduced.
18.
Only three members may be at the table at one time, although team members
may rotate through at any time.
19.
The referee makes all final judgment calls and cannot consider protests.
