Math & Science Night @ LBJ Elementary

The 2005 Toltech robot appeared at the September math and science family night at an Edgewood ISD elementary school. Parents and students participated in fun workshops and in between where treated to a demonstration by the robot. Our Lone Star Regional championship trophy and medal were on display as well.

HOUSTON ROBOTICS EARLY PROGRAM

The Toltech team has partnered with the Edgewood ISD Gifted and Talented program to implement the Houston Robotics EARLY program. (Engineering And Robotics Learned Young) Three kits were delivered to all eleven campuses this fall. Mr. Schuetze, lead sponsor, conducted a single day training session for the lead GT teacher at each campus. A workshop / competition was held December 5th. The team acted as mentors for the elementary schools as they designed and built a robot for the moon challenge game. The upper classmen organized practice times for each school and then ran the mock challenge after lunch.

The San Antonio Express-News ran a short article about the event in late December.

BOTBALL

Botball is the national robotics competition for middle school students. It is run by Kiss Institute for Practical Robotics. The eight graders from the Edgewood Independent School District built a robot to accomplish the obstacles given in the playing field. They built these robots with LegoŽs. This program starts with a two-day workshop for teachers and team members where they receive all the information on what the game is about and the reusable robot kit and components. After the workshop, teams have only seven weeks to design, build, program a team of mobile, autonomous robots (no remote control) and a website. Then at the tournament the teams will compete against other school on a four feet by eight feet playing field. Last years competition was to design and construct a bot that would collect and sort garbage.
